Celebrating women's activism and voting

I’m getting in touch on behalf of my work, as opposed to voluntary work. I support the youth voice of young people across the Y&H region and we potentially have the opportunity this year to work with young women aged 16 – 25 in rural Yorkshire, to raise their awareness and aspirations around political engagement and activism, to celebrate the 100 years of some women getting the vote.

I was wondering if there might be some female Friends who might be willing to share their stories of campaigning, being involved in politics etc. I am contacting Quakers because I am aware of the breadth of work undertaken by individuals both on behalf of Friends but also as witness in partnership with other organisations. I am particularly hoping that there might be some older Friends, as we would also like to develop some intergenerational work, and for the young women to hear from older women what they have experienced and vis versa.

The project isn’t certain yet, due to funding, but we are in the catch 22 situation where I need to be able to say we have support, whilst at the same time not wanting to make commitments.

The events would bring young women together, to explore politics and political engagement and why suffrage is still an issue. Followed by an opportunity in small groups to hear from women who are or have campaigned, been involved in politics etc, and then explore what the young women could do next. So quite simple I hope, with the focus on hearing and learning from each other.

Thank you for your time and support with this request
In friendship
