News oneconomics and sustainability from Quaker Peace & Social Witness (february 2018)

Dear Friend,

Thank you to everyone who wrote to their MP after last month's email! We are making our voices heard. Chris met with the Shadow Climate Change Secretary to discuss potential next steps and secure his support for firmer policymaking advocacy. Please keep forwarding on your MP's responses to so we can focus our energies on who will support this work.

Wales and Scotland have waved goodbye to fracking, and the latest New Economy Foundation report suggests that England could one day follow suit, if community resistance continues to outweigh government support for the industry. Quakers are present at fossil fuel extraction sites in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Sussex, holding monthly vigils and meetings for worship. Read about these acts of witness - and the other forms that resistance can take - in Chris's new blog post, Going frack-free: it takes a village:

Quakers who help run the Preston New Road-based No Faith in Fracking group have made a wonderful video featuring interviews with people who feel moved to demonstrate at Cuadrilla's Lancashire site. Watch it here:
There is real momentum gathering around closing down this particular site in the coming weeks, so if you have been planning to visit the protection camp, we have some key dates for your diary:
Monday 23-Friday 27 April - Interfaith Week of Action Quakers are invited to join a week of faith-led fracking resistance. Organised by the Quaker-led #NoFaithInFracking group who made the video above, there will be a special focus on Friday 27 as a day for Quakers to come together in nonviolent action. More information can be found on their Facebook group at

If you would like to join any of this work or share a message that upholds those who are taking action, please send me an email at!

In Friendship,
