Welcome to QPSW Spring Sessions 2021 - What love can do: How Quaker faith impels us to act in the world.
The Spring Sessions will look at issues including the spiritual roots of our work, working with decision makers, climate and racial justice peace campaigning, and more. There will be time for include discussions, question & answer sessions, and participatory activities. Everyone is welcome to these new Spring Sessions considering ‘What love can do: How Quaker faith impels us to act in the world’. If you have never heard of Quakerism before - or indeed you’re new to thinking about how we can act in the world to create peace and positive change - you are welcome. You do not have to be a Quaker!
Details of this session:
These are difficult times for Quaker campaigners in many ways, perhaps most importantly because:
• There’s a global pandemic taking up everyone’s time and energy
• The current UK government is not aligned with many Quaker priorities and seems reluctant to engage with civil society.
But that doesn’t mean we should give up hope of bringing about change. BYM has continued campaigning during the pandemic, seeking to find common ground with natural and less-obvious allies, and pushing for positive change in key areas. Quakers have a long history of bringing unlikely groups of people together to work towards peace, and now is a crucial time to build on that experience.
This session will be an opportunity to discuss how we can work with decision-makers and other key partners during these challenging times. It will focus particularly on building support for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), but the learning will be transferable to many other areas.
This workshop will be co-facilitated by Marigold Bentley, Head of Peace Programmes and Faith Relations, and Grace Da Costa, Public Affairs & Advocacy Manager at Quakers in Britain.
